Microsoft Exchange Upgradation from 2010 to 2013
By Sreedevi K Nair
OOAC,LLC helped one of its clients to migrate their exchange server from 2010 to 2013. It was carried out in a co-existence mode using service pack to ensure back up in case of a breakdown. This process required utmost care to ensure no data was lost. Before the migration we assured that a third party Exchange software that was currently running was also supported on Exchange 2013 such as antivirus, backup solutions, archiving, mail management, mobile device software. During the migration from 2010 to 2013,exchange 2013 was introduced in the existing exchange environment and then the content was migrated before removing exchange 2010. A common sense check was performed to ensure that Exchange 2010 server is running cleanly and maintains a good communication with both the domain and DNS. A windows update was performed on the existing exchange server to install any exchange roll ups that are outstanding.
The final step involves migrating the mails from the old exchange version to the current version. The mail flow was altered by changing the SMTP from old Exchange 2010 box to the new Exchange 2013, this process varies depending on the network setup.
