Content Filter with Dansguardian and Squid

OOAC helped its client with content filtering using Dansguardian and Squid. This was implemented on Ubuntu 12.04. Dansguardian was used as a content filter while Shorewall and fail2ban was used to provide security and bastille was used to harden the system. Using the proxy server squid, we could direct all HTTP traffic to DansGuardian for filtering. User authentication was enabled so users could be grouped into Dansguardian policies. Blacklists and whitelists were built, PICS system configured and phraselists customized for the client environment. Squid was configured to use cache on a reiserfs partition and file system access tuned for performance, apt-cache-ng was configured as a peer proxy so local deb cache could be transparently accessed. This system was intended to serve around 500 users.
